Airports are not all equal for families. Some feel like indoor obstacle courses. Others give you quiet corners, real nursing rooms, and places for kids to move. This index scores 25 major U.S. airports on three things parents actually use: play zones, nursing spaces, and quiet or sensory nooks. Use the quick calculator to weigh what matters most to you, then skim the rankings and notes to plan easier connections.
How this index works
We score each airport on three parent-priority categories: Play Zones (quality and availability), Nursing Rooms (number and placement inside security), and Quiet or Sensory Spaces (dedicated rooms or reliably calm nooks). You can adjust the weights to match your family and see how the top list changes.

Make the airport easier
| Move | How to do it | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-map your terminal | Open the airport family or accessibility page before your trip | Less wandering and fewer last minute scrambles |
| Use lactation locator apps | Search “Mamava” app for pods and rooms in your terminal | Confirms a private space inside security near your gate |
| Plan an energy break | Book connections with 70 to 90 minutes at kid-friendly hubs | Time to play, snack, and reset before boarding |
| Quiet corners | Look for window ends, yoga rooms, or sensory spaces where offered | Lower noise and gentler light between flights |
Amenities can change. Check the airport site and app on the week of travel.
